KL in more turbulent times

Hi. My Battlescenes posting attracted quite a lot of views. I think that is maybe because we have never associated Kuala Lumpur streets with war and stuff. That is why actual scenes of war on KL streets can seem a bit surreal.

So in this particular posting, i would like to post more pictures when things were a bit more complicated than they are now. This was when communist terrorist was active in Malaysia; my father refers to those time as "zaman kominis" which means "communist era".

Again, I love to go into some details about this pictures and the history, but I just don't have the time right now. I've done short summaries for the pics I posted. Short summaries would not do them justice, I know, but what to do, I've got no time. Anyway, enjoy the pictures.

Although in 1970s the Malayan Communist were pretty much contained to the jungles, once in a while they reminded city folks that they were still relevant and walked amongst us. On August 26, 1975, they bombed the National Monument or Tugu Negara, which removed one whole statue and the heads of three other statue.

  1. Well, UMNO managed to achieve one thing. The BTN-type morons, have been overwhelmingly successful in brainwashing todays 27 million citizens.

Who says that the peninsular was always called Tanah Melayu? This is a recent British term!

Tanah Melayu was never the name until the British came and colonized the peninsular.

Malai means hill in Tamil; as to describe the Titiwangsa range on the said peninsular since the 2nd century by the Gujerati traders who set up their formidable Hindu empire at Lembah Bujang.
